Previous Class Projects
Each Leadership Pickens County class is required to initiate a class project. The project can be anything that the class decides on that will assist in the community. The project for each class is noted below.
Class of 2007
- Completed the first website devoted entirely to Leadership Pickens County. The class researched through almost 20 years of data to develop a website to increase the awareness of Leadership Pickens County
Class of 2006
- Raised over $26,000 from Corporate Sponsorships to furnish the kitchen in Mary's House, the only shelter for domestic violence victims in Pickens County, scheduled to open summer 2008.
Class of 2005
- Aided with Pickens County Vision 2025
Class of 2004
- Raised awareness of Pickens County.
- Established a working relation with the county to make Pickens County more beautiful.
Class of 2003
- Developed the Leadership Pickens County Board of Regents to help organize the four Chambers of Commerce to continue to run the 10 month sessions of Leadership Pickens County.
Class of 2002
- Pickens County Industry Appreciation Event.
- Worked with Pickens County Economic Development Association to present this event.
- The first Golf/Lake event help at Cliffs Vineyard included 18 golf teams and 34 lake guests.
Class of 2001
- Leadership Pickens County Alumni Council.
- First session was held on October 8, 2001, with approximately 40 people in attendance.
- The council divided into focus groups: Economic Development, Education, Health Care, Environmental, Tourism and Infrastructure.
- Bylaws were developed.
- The council met again in the spring of 2002.
Class of 2000
- Community Leadership Conference.
- Planned and held a conference to focus on the following four issues: Planning, Industrial Development, Classroom Resources, Outdoor Resources.
Class of 1999
- Connect Pickens County.
- Began the process of getting various groups in the county to work together, starting with the four Chambers of Commerce.
- Began quarterly joint Chamber Business After-hours.
- Held joint Chamber Board of Directors Meetings.
- Discussed joint Business Expos.
Class of 1998
- Volunteer Task Force.
- Established Hands on Pickens Organization.
Class of 1997
- Mentoring Task Force.
- Mentored students and Simpson Academy.
Class of 1996
- Forums Task Force.
- Worked with Planning Committee and Pickens County Homeowners Association to inform more people a bout needs and concerns of the county and started with Land Use.
Class of 1995

Class of 1994
- Teen Vision Task Force.
- Investigated establishing a county Teen Club.
- Pickens County Visions Task Force.
- Interested in the overall quality of life vision for the county.
Class of 1993
- Communications Task Force.
- Held a Public Service Commission telephone poll to determine if the users of Pickens County would pay for toll free countywide service. Two of the areas voted against the service. A unanimous vote was needed to pass the change.
- Business/Industry/Education Partnership Task Force.
- Worked to develop stronger partnerships between business, industry and education leaders.
- Assisted with alternative eduation needs.
- Economic Development Task Force.
- Focused on Development of small businesses in the county.
Class of 1992
- Healthcare Task Force.
- Improve immunization rates for children age 2 and under.
- Recreation Task Force.
- Investigated county recreation possibilities.
- Achieved split of county recreation/tourism committee.
- Planning and Land Use.
- Worked on Development Standard Ordinances.
- Tourism Task Force.
- Developed plan to build the Cherokee Foothills Visitors Center.
Class of 1991
- Pickens County Services Task Force.
- Consolidated many of the services of the county and municipalities.
- Education Task Force.
- Developed homework centers in elementary schools.
- Planning and Land Use.
- Marketing Pickens County Task Force.
- Led to the development of the Pickens County Economic Development Alliance.
